Extended Interview with Dr. Steve Chee

IFS and the Nervous System

Hello everyone,

I am so excited to share my latest conversation on the podcast with my dear friend, Dr. Steve Chee. I love getting to talk with friends on the podcast. I feel more alive just from being connected to him!

The title of this episode is The Safety to Come Alive: IFS and the Nervous System.

Steve is an integrative East-West physician and certified IFS therapist. He has a new program, The Sacred Nervous System, through the IFS Institute this fall that helps "sensitives, mystics, and field-aware souls who've been told they're too much" find safety and wholeness. It's truly beautiful work, and it's what our conversation today is all about.

What We Discussed In The Episode:

  • The Nervous System & Your Parts: We dove into the deep connection between our nervous system and our protective parts. Steve shared his personal story of needing relational safety with another person to finally be able to heal and feel safe to "come alive," which he refers to as being "spiritually bypassed."

  • Beyond Co-Regulation to Co-Revelation: Steve introduced me to a new term that I love: co-revelation. While co-regulation is about the nervous system settling, co-revelation is a deeper, more profound experience of relational healing that allows you to be loved for who you are without having to "perform a model" to earn it.

  • The Power of Love: Steve and I talked about the importance of having a fidelity to love rather than just a fidelity to any one model or theory. For Steve, love is the true source of healing. His work is about reclaiming the sacredness of every person so we can all feel safe enough to truly come alive.

I hope you get as much from this conversation as I did.

I wanted to share a clip from our extended interview, where Steve shares a story about what gives him hope in the world. It’s a beautiful moment that ties back to our conversation about being alive and the kind of fierce, tender love that allows us to be our full Selves. It's a perfect example of what can emerge when we have the safety to come alive.
